Participate 2.1.1 Collecting Reputable Digital Resources

The Experience

Prior to enrolling in this online teacher training platform, I had the pleasure of taking a course entitled, Internet Tools and Resources. This course provided a web-based quest that only enhanced this experience. As an educator, I am always searching for resources that will enhance the learning experience for my students.  I enjoy using a variety of applications that allow students to showcase their creativity and mastery of content knowledge. It is an array of resources that are both free and paid that can inspire learning.

Just as I search for materials and resources, it is important that students must be engaged in utilizing and learning these digital literacy skills to enhance their own research capabilities.

Useful Resources
  • Learn Zillion (www.learnzillion.com)-  this provides Common Core videos, tools, and activities that can help students as well as teachers as we embrace these new standards.
  • ToonDoo (www.toondoo.com) - this site allows teachers and students to create comics to demonstrate their mastery of standards.
  • Khan Academy (www.khanacademy.org) - this site provides excellent tools including courses, videos, and extra practice. Students can learn a new topic using this site or they can get extra help for a topic with which they are struggling.

Teaching Students to Find Reputable Sources.

Both traditional and online courses should begin with information on finding reputable resources because the internet is full with information. Students need to be taught how to recognize different types of web addresses and what sites are best for research. In order to demonstrate their revolving knowledge of reputable tools and resources,  I would encourage students to create a blog or how-to-guide on choosing these resources.

Policies/Procedures to Finding Reputable Sources:

I would create a resource as well as a quick survey that will help students find reputable sources. In addition, an online tutorial will be a great procedure to help students find those sources.
